AI detecting breast cancer 4 years before it developed

Two weeks ago CNN posted a video showcasing great strides made by MIT and the Memorial Sloan Kettering Centre. It shows AI predicting breast cancer four years before it developed.

The technology uses AI to look at the mammograms and identifies the areas for the radiologist to look at them with more careful consideration. This technique is called Computer-assisted detection and is used in various medical applications. This technology can detect the abnormalities that the human eye can miss. Of course, all the abnormalities would not be cancer, but the technology can identify the risk for those who are at risk of developing breast cancer. Therefore, AI is the tool that can help the radiologist look at the images in more detail and compare them with previous examples to find similarities.

This type of predictive technology will be great for prevention in the future. Currently, it is still in the research phase and will require further research and testing before it can be used commercially. We are looking forward to seeing and being a part of the strides towards advancing AI for cancer detection.

At Astronomical AI, we are always supporting innovations for medical applications and aiming to create solutions that help society and advance scientific change. Our starting point is to focus on using AI for diagnosis and treatment, as there is an immediate need for this due to the shortfall of oncologists and the increase in wait times due to Covid 19 backlogs.
