Our Commitment to Ethical AI

At Astronomical AI, we believe that building impactful technology begins with building just technology. Ethical design isn’t an afterthought, it’s embedded from the ground up.

Principles We Stand By

1. Bias Awareness & Equity
AI in healthcare must serve all patients. We actively identify and mitigate bias in training data to ensure equitable outcomes across ethnicity, gender, and age. Our commitment is to create tools that improve, not exacerbate health inequalities.

2. Transparency & Explainability
We prioritise interpretable models. Our system produces visual explanations that help clinicians understand the reasoning behind each AI-assisted decision because clinical trust requires clarity.

3. Human-Centred Design
Our AI is designed to support, not replace, oncologists. We collaborate with clinical teams to ensure the technology fits into existing workflows and enhances, rather than disrupts, the delivery of care.

4. Clinical Safety & Validation
Safety underpins every deployment. We follow robust validation processes including expert review, controlled testing environments, and peer oversight before any clinical integration.

5. Data Privacy & Security
We uphold the highest standards of patient confidentiality. All data is fully anonymised and governed by GDPR-compliant protocols, with a focus on ethical data sourcing and secure infrastructure.

6. Environmental Responsibility
We are conscious of AI’s environmental footprint. Our models are optimised for efficiency, and we actively seek sustainable computing solutions minimising energy use and favouring infrastructure powered by renewable sources wherever possible.

7. Decolonising AI & AwarenessTechnology is not neutral, it reflects the structures it is built within. We are actively exploring ways to decolonise AI by rethinking power, ownership, and representation in data and development. We also support public awareness and allyship through educational tools like our GPT project, Beyond the Colonial Mind, which helps users unlearn colonial conditioning and engage with systemic justice.

Oversight & Governance

We are guided by a multidisciplinary Ethics Advisory Board made up of:

  • AI and data science experts
  • Clinical oncologists
  • GDPR and research ethics advisors
  • Trauma-informed psychotherapists

Together, they ensure our work aligns with clinical excellence, environmental sustainability, and social responsibility.
